Being a trauma-informed yoga instructor means everything we do is choice-based. During our first session, we will establish agreements to ensure we are never stepping past your edge or window of tolerance. The sessions can be done hands-off or hands-on, again, to the level that you are comfortable with.
I always strive to make the sessions a safe space for you to work through whatever you're experiencing in a healthy way. If at any point you do not feel safe, please let me know, and I will do what I can to best support you
When you are in your window of tolerance, you feel as though you can deal with what’s happening in your life. You may feel some stress but it’s not crushing you. This is the most ideal place to be and we will work to get you there & lengthen your window of tolerance.
Trauma and excessive stress can shrink your window of tolerance, when in that state it won’t take much to throw you off balance.
Working with a practitioner can help expand your window of tolerance so you feel as though you can handle the challenges you may have.
Regulation tools are different kinds of techniques you can do when you find yourself dis-regulated or unbalanced. Some that I may teach you are, breath work such as box breath, oceans breath, continuous sigh. Other things may be mindful movement, how to ground yourself and 5-4-3-2-1. There are many different regulation techniques and I would love to help you find what works for you.
Tetany is a wave of physical and emotional sensations that can be part of a result of energetic healing work. It is a re-calibration of the nervous system, especially when a change/experience makes your body short circuit as a result the body will start to shake uncontrollably.
TRE is a way of inducing tetany in a safe environment to give you the opportunity to work past what may be energetically stuck in your body.
Some of the things I try to pay extra attention to in my clients are dysregulation, dissociation, body language, window of tolerance, and physical boundaries. If I do notice any of the above, I may ask gentle questions about what I am noticing so I can better understand where you are and how to help support you during the session.
I would like to acknowledge that you may have experienced a traumatic situation that led you here. While it is important to work through traumas, I, as your practitioner, do not need to know the story. I am not a licensed psychotherapist; I am a body and energy practitioner. If the session goes outside of my range of skills, I will ask us to stop there and suggest that you continue that conversation with your therapist or counselor
